England Stars To Miss IPL 2025 Playoffs As ECB Focuses On West Indies Tour

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is expected to bar its players from participating in the IPL 2025 playoffs due to the upcoming ODI series against the West Indies. The revised IPL schedule, recently released by the tournament’s governing council, now overlaps with the England-West Indies ODI series, which starts on May 29.

The current IPL season is set to resume on Saturday, May 17, with the final league match taking place on May 27. The final, which was earlier scheduled for May 25, has now been moved to June 3. In contrast, England’s ODI series kicks off just two days after the league stage ends. The ECB announced its squad for the series on May 13.

As per a report by ‘The Telegraph’, the ECB has informed the selected players that they must prioritize national commitments. At present, five players named in the ODI squad are also active participants in the IPL.

Jos Buttler (Gujarat Titans), Jacob Bethell (Royal Challengers Bengaluru), and Will Jacks (Mumbai Indians) are the only players likely to miss the IPL 2025 playoffs if their teams make it to that stage.

On the other hand, Jofra Archer’s time with the Rajasthan Royals concludes on May 20, and Jamie Overton of the Chennai Super Kings is reportedly reluctant to travel back to India for the rest of the tournament.

Harry Brook is set to begin his tenure as England’s full-time white-ball captain

Harry Brook is set to officially take over as England’s full-time white-ball captain in the upcoming series against the West Indies. The Yorkshire batsman assumed the role after Jos Buttler resigned in the wake of England’s disappointing 2025 Champions Trophy performance.

Brook previously led the side during a home ODI series against Australia last year, although England ended up losing that series.
