ENGvIND: Kuldeep & Rohit shine as India crush England by 8 wickets in the 1st ODI

The Indian team produced a dominating performance by crushing hosts England in the first One day international played at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Thursday. Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to field first.

A great bowling effort by Kuldeep Yadav helped India restrict hosts England to a modest total after a positive start by England openers. Chasing the target, the Indian team chased down the target with ease.

Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and invited England into bat. England openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow played with positive intent off Umesh Yadav and Siddarth Kaul bowling. At the end of 10 overs, England scored 71 for 0.

After the power play overs, Kuldeep Yadav came into the attack and dismissed the dangerous Jason Roy for 38. Both of them added 73 runs for opening wicket. The left arm chinamen bowler created pressure on the England batting attacking dismissing Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow in the same over to reduce hosts to 82 for 3 in 13th over.

The other spinner Yuzvendra Chahal picked the important wicket of England captain Eoin Morgan for 19. Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes steadied innings taking singles and hitting bad balls away for boundaries. Buttler continued his superb form by reaching his half-century off 45 balls while Ben Stokes struggled to time the ball. Kuldeep Yadav broke the backbone of England batting line-up dismissing dangerous Jos Buttler for 53. Both Buttler and Stokes added 93 runs for the 5th wicket.

Ben Stokes reached his half-century off 102 balls. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Ben Stokes and David Willey in the same over to register his best figures of 6/25. Despite Moeen Ali 24 and Adil Rashid 22, India bowled England for 268 in 49.5 overs. For India, Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of bowlers with 6/25.

Chasing 269 runs to win, the Indian openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma gave the team a flying start. Dhawan who failed in three T20Is looked in fluent touch. Moeen Ali dismissed Shikhar Dhawan for 40 off 27 balls.

At the end of 10 overs, India scored 74 for 1. After the power play overs, Rohit Sharma and captain Virat Kohli continued to play England bowlers with ease. Rohit Sharma reached his half-century off 54 balls. The Indian captain soon reached his 50 off 55 balls. It was easy going for both Indian batsmen.

Rohit Sharma completed his 18th ODI century off 82 balls. Adil Rashid dismissed Indian captain Virat Kohli for 75. Both Rohit and Kohli added 167 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Rohit Sharma continued his brilliant touch remaining not out on 137 off 114 balls. India started the ODI series with a crushing 8 wicket win with 59 balls to spare.

England 268 in 49.5 overs ( Jos Buttler 53, Ben Stokes 50, Kuldeep Yadav 6/25, Umesh Yadav 2/70) by 8 wickets.

England captain Eoin Morgan said: Disappointed with the way we lost our way. Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow started the innings off to a great start. Kuldeep Yadav was superb with the ball who changed the course of the game with his variety. Need to play well Kuldeep well at Lords to make a comeback in series.

Indian captain Virat Kohli said: Outstanding performance by our bowlers to restrict England just 268 runs after a brilliant start by Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow. Kuldeep Yadav was outstanding who troubled the England batsmen. Rohit Sharma showed his class and made sure that India won the match with ease.

Man of the match Kuldeep Yadav said: It was a big day for me. I got early wickets which put pressure on the England batsmen. Hoping to see me in the test squad. The pitch had some turn which helped me.

India leads the 3 match ODI series 1-0. The second match will be played at Lords, London on 14th July.
