Meanwhile, Morgan and Cummins – the two highly-rated cricketers were the hottest properties in the IPL 2020 auction. Kolkata spent a sum of Rs 5.5 crore to avail Morgan’s service, while they had to shell a whopping Rs 15.5 crores to rope in Cummins.

Morgan and Cummins will add value – Nayar

Incidentally, both Eoin Morgan and Pat Cummins have featured for the Knight Riders in the past. But with both of them at their personal best now, Abhishek Nayar feels Morgan and Cummins will add a lot of value to the side.

“One of the things we were looking for the team was leadership quality in the group. Brendon and Dinesh were very upfront about it. We thought Morgan and Cummins could add a lot of value.

One is a World Cup winner and the other is the No. 1 Test bowler and vice-captain of Australia. This is what we needed. Hopefully, we will have a great season,” Abhishek Nayar told Sportstar.

Besides the international stars, Kolkata Knight Riders have a pool of local talent. Among them, all eyes will be on Kamlesh Nagarkoti, who is line to make IPL debut after missing two years of action owing to injury. Abhishek Nayar seemed pleased with Nagarkoti achieving fitness to finally make his IPL debut.

Kolkata had bought Kamlesh and Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi in 2018 after their terrific run in the ICC U-19 World Cup.

“All the kids are good within the aspect. Kamlesh, Shivam (Mavi) and all of the boys know the way in particular they’re and what they will do. I believe it’s nice that Kamlesh is match fit and hopefully he’ll stay match fit for the IPL. Personally, I might be very pleased to see the child lastly getting to play after two years. These are thrilling occasions forward,” Nayar said.

Kolkata Knight Riders begin their IPL 2020 campaign against defending champions Mumbai Indians on September 23.
