Fans Criticize Gautam Gambhir For Allegedly Calling MS Dhoni “So-Called Finisher”

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir made headlines once again with his comments on former India captain MS Dhoni. Ever since he has retired, he has started analysing the game and shares his opinion as well.

However, he recently ignited a fresh spark of dispute when he called “so-called finisher.” Although he didn’t mention MS Dhoni, fans were quick to jump to the conclusion as well.

However, the fact is well known that Gambhir gets irked whenever MS Dhoni gets the credit for the 2011 World Cup win. Gambhir, who was the highest individual run-scorer in the 50 Over World Cup final in 2011, didn’t take it well and is now a “so-called finisher” during his commentary stint in the Select Dugout for broadcasters’ Star Sports during the ongoing IPL made things worst.

“..or a Russell, being called as a finisher. No! Virat Kohli is probably has been the best finisher and the reason…he bats at No.3. So just by giving people this term ‘finisher’, doesn’t make one a finisher,” Gautam Gambhir is heard saying in the viral video.

“And I am sure, if one looks at the stats and data or whatever you want to call it, if you compare Virat Kohli scoring the last run with someone like the so-called finisher,” he added.

MS Dhoni’s CSK qualify for the playoffs

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni-led CSK has reached the playoffs of the IPL 2021. But they lost their last game against Rajasthan Royals.

After the match, MS Dhoni said: “A bad toss to lose. 190 was a good score, and the dew made it flat, and the ball started coming on well. You needed to bat well, and they did that, and put pressure on the bowlers. They just took the game away in the first 6 overs. 250 would’ve been closer to par (Warning: sarcasm), given the way they were going. It was stopping a bit when their wristspinners were bowling, and it started coming on better later, that’s when Ruturaj capitalised really well. Often when you lose the game it can get brushed under the carpet but it was a brilliant innings. I think the batsmen must assess quickly what is a good score, and you tend to go hard in the T20 format and then realise that it’s not a 160-180 wicket.

“They assessed the conditions quickly, and they didn’t let pressure get to the middle order. Deepak was really good with the new ball in earlier games, and we did miss him because today the bowlers were under the pump. We could have used the dimensions better in terms of setting fields too. It’s important to forget but also learn from this game because there’s no point learning if this happens in a playoff match,” he added.
