Hardik Pandya once again proved his worth in a high-pressure situation, playing a crucial role in India’s victory against Australia in the 2025 Champions Trophy semifinal in Dubai. With India requiring 24 runs off 20 balls, Pandya took charge in the 48th over against Adam Zampa. The dynamic all-rounder smashed two consecutive sixes off the leg-spinner, reducing the equation to just 12 runs needed from 18 balls.
Though Pandya initially struggled to connect, his aggressive intent paid off as he cleared the boundary with ease when he found his rhythm. Australia had three fielders patrolling the boundary, including long-on and long-off, but Pandya’s sheer power saw him dispatch the ball well beyond them. His first six, a towering hit over long-off, capitalized on a fuller-length delivery. Zampa attempted to persist with the same length but was punished even harder, as Pandya launched an enormous 101-meter six straight down the ground.

Pandya’s Crucial Contributions Throughout the Tournament
Pandya’s quickfire 28 off 24 balls, including three sixes and a boundary, was instrumental in keeping India ahead in the chase. Though he eventually holed out to Glenn Maxwell at long-on, his efforts left India needing just six runs off seven balls—an easy task for the remaining batters. His impact wasn’t limited to the semifinal; he had also delivered a crucial 45-run knock off 45 balls against New Zealand in the last Group A match, ensuring India’s smooth progression to the knockout stage.
Alongside Pandya, KL Rahul played a match-winning innings, scoring an unbeaten 42 off 34 balls. The wicketkeeper-batter finished the chase in style, smashing a six off Maxwell in the final over to seal the victory. Virat Kohli was the backbone of India’s innings, anchoring the chase with a well-compiled 84 off 98 deliveries.
India Sets Up Final Clash After Dominant Performance
Earlier, Australia posted a competitive total of 264 in 49.3 overs, with half-centuries from Steve Smith and Alex Carey. However, India’s bowlers delivered a clinical performance, led by Mohammad Shami, who took three wickets. Varun Chakaravarthy and Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with two wickets each, restricting the Aussies from posting an even bigger total.
With this victory, India booked a spot in the final, awaiting the winner of the second semifinal between South Africa and New Zealand, set to take place in Lahore on March 5.
