The Royal Challengers Bangalore announced their latest signing for the second phase of the Indian Premier League 2021. The tournament resumes on September 19 in the United Arab Emirates.

Sri Lankan pacer Dushmantha Chameera has been added to the squad. He will replace Daniel Sams, who made himself unavailable for the UAE leg of the tournament. The Royal Challengers Bangalore announced the arrival of the Sri Lankan pacer through their social media account.

Dushmantha Chameera was born on 11 January 1992 at Ragama in Sri Lanka. He is fondly called as “Chamee” in the Sri Lankan dressing room.

#4 Early days as a cricketer

Dushmantha Chameera took up cricket professionally at the age of eleven. In 2012, he joined the Nondescripts Cricket Club (NCC), where he was nurtured to be the future prospect for Sri Lanka. In NCC’s championship run in the 2013-2014 season, Chameera was the highlight with 32 first-class wickets at an average of 21.18.

#3 ODI debut for Sri Lanka

Dushmantha Chameera made his International debut in an ODI against New Zealand in 2015. He took two wickets and conceded 60 runs in eight overs. The pacaer rattled the Kiwi batsmen with his fierce pace. He dismissed Ross Taylor in his first over in international cricket, and Grant Elliott later in the match.

Dushmantha Chameera has represented Sri Lanka in 73 International matches across all formats. He has taken 97 wickets at an average of 34.42, including two five-wicket hauls, with 9/115 as his best match figures.

In an interview, Dushmantha Chameera revealed that he idolizes former Australian pacer, Brett Lee. “From my small days, I wanted to be a fast bowler. Brett Lee is my hero and I have been following him very closely,” he was quoted saying.
