“For Dhoni It Was Always About More Victories Than More Runs”- Sreesanth’s Response To Gautam Gambhir’s Comment About MS Dhoni

Former Indian fast bowler S Sreesanth expressed a difference of opinion with Gautam Gambhir’s remarks regarding MS Dhoni’s sacrifices for the team. Gambhir had recently suggested that Dhoni could have amassed more runs if he had batted in the top order but chose to sacrifice his position for the team.

Contrarily, Sreesanth believed that MS Dhoni consistently prioritized optimizing the performance of individual team members and adjusted his batting position accordingly to achieve this goal. In an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda, here’s what Sreesanth shared regarding whether MS Dhoni indeed compromised his batting position:

“Gautam Bhai said recently that Dhoni would have scored more runs had he batted at No.3. But for Dhoni it was always about more victories than more runs. He always had the ability to finish games when the team needed him and he won two World Cups as well.”

He further added: “Credit should go to Dhoni, but he didn’t sacrifice his batting position. He worked a way to find out which players would do well for the team in which position and then slot them in those positions accordingly. His captaincy had the ability to bring the best out of his players. He has always thought about the team first.”

MS Dhoni contributes positively to people’s lives: Sreesanth

The former World Cup-winning fast bowler also recounted an incident during IPL 2023 when legendary Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar eagerly approached Dhoni for an autograph. Sreesanth sees this as a testament to the profound influence Dhoni has had on people’s lives.

Regarding this incident, he remarked: “Another quality of Dhoni is that he adds value to people’s lives. When we saw Sunil Gavaskar run towards Dhoni and take autograph, it showed the greatness of him as well as Dhoni.”

It will be noteworthy to witness whether Dhoni makes a return to IPL action next year.
