Former Indian cricket star Ambati Tirupati Rayudu officially entered the realm of politics as he joined the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP), the ruling party in Andhra Pradesh. The momentous occasion took place in Vijayawada, where he was warmly welcomed by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Deputy CM Narayan Swamy and YSRCP MP Peddireddy Mithun Reddy were also present at the event.

Rayudu, renowned for his cricketing prowess, bid adieu to his sports career in 2023 after an illustrious journey, concluding with the Indian Premier League. Hailing from Andhra Pradesh, he has not only represented the state in domestic cricket but has also donned the national colors as a part of Team India.

The decision to transition into politics was unveiled by Rayudu in June, with a strategic approach. The 37-year-old embarked on a tour of his hometown, Guntur district, post-May, immersing himself in the grassroots to fathom the challenges faced by the common people.

Expressing his intentions, Rayudu stated, “I shall soon enter politics in Andhra Pradesh to serve the people. Before that, I have decided to visit different parts of the district to know the people’s pulse and understand their problems.” He emphasized the formulation of a comprehensive action plan and the careful selection of his political platform.

In April of the same year, Rayudu had lauded Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy through a post on social media. “Great speech… our chief minister @ysjagan garu… everyone in the state has complete belief in you sir,” he expressed, indicating his admiration for the political leader.

Rayudu’s cricketing legacy is impressive, having played 55 One Day International (ODI) matches, amassing 1694 runs with a remarkable average of 47.06. His transition from the cricket pitch to the political arena reflects a new chapter in his life, marked by a commitment to public service in his home state of Andhra Pradesh.
