Former India coach Lalchand Rajput who was a part of India’s coaching staff from their World T20 win in 2007 has now come up with his opinion on Prithvi Shaw’s technical flaw in his game. Shaw’s weakness against the moving ball was brutally exposed by the Australian pacers. He had scored of 0 and 4 in the two innings of the Adelaide test which might see him dropped from the next test in Melbourne.
Lalchand Rajput said to Times of India that while everyone has been speaking about Shaw’s technical deficiency, no one is willing to work with him and improve his game. It was Ricky Ponting who first spoke about Shaw leaving a gap between bat and pad to incoming deliveries. Poting’s words were echoed by former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar who criticised his technique and said that he should be dropped from the next test.
“Everyone is saying that he leaves a big gap between bat and pad, but why is nobody working on it? He’s a good stroke-player. You don’t see things when you’re in good nick. However, when you’re not among the runs, these are the problem areas where the opposition bowlers, especially if they’re slightly quick, will expose you,” Rajput made his point

Lalchand Rajput also shared his thoughts on Prithvi Shaw’s overall game. He said that Shaw brings the bat down from an angle which is why he is often beaten by the pace of the delivery.
“Prthvi’s got a major problem in the sense that he leaves a big gap between his bat and pad. I could see this in New Zealand too. His bat comes from almost the gully region, and he makes an arc while bringing it down,” Rajput said.

He then spoke about how he can rectify his mistake in the long run. Shaw did not have a good IPL 2020, however, he was picked in the Indian test squad based on his figures at home in the first few tests that he played.
“His back-lift has to be straighter. He must make sure that his right elbow touches the stomach. By doing that, his bat will become straight, and that ‘gap’ won’t be there. He can then play that ball which comes in. I’m sure that if he’s with me in the nets for a couple of days, I can work it out,” he added.
