Former India Star Ajay Jadeja Showers Praise On Harry Brook After Tense Day 4

Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja praised Harry Brook for his aggressive hundred on Day 4 of the fifth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. He highlighted that Brook’s approach and manner of dismissal were reminiscent of Rishabh Pant. Brook hammered 111 off just 98 balls in England’s second innings at The Oval on Sunday, August 3.

The hosts ended the day at 339/6, needing 35 more runs to seal a 3-1 series win. Speaking on Sony Sports, Jadeja drew parallels between Brook and Pant’s playing styles.

“Such players might not score runs every time, but when they score runs, they leave a massive impact. He reminded me of Rishabh Pant today. There was one thing common between him and Rishabh Pant. Both are impactful, and their bats go flying. Their styles are similar, so their mistakes and impact will also look similar,” he said.

Ajay Jadeja Backs Impact Players Like Brook and Pant in Tough Moments

The former India captain also remarked that while players like Brook and Pant may lack the consistency of someone like Joe Root, teams still need such unorthodox talents in high-pressure moments.

“Brook remains the same. He doesn’t change his game. Washington Sundar left him standing halfway down the pitch in the last match. This is the thing with these players. They might not be as consistent as Joe Root every day, but a team needs them too. In difficult circumstances, only mavericks come in handy,” Jadeja observed.

Ajay Jadeja noted that Harry Brook’s wagon wheel stands out from other batters. He explained that the Yorkshire batter tends to score heavily on the leg side and often uses his feet to drive through the cover region.

During the same discussion, Ajay Jadeja stated that Harry Brook began his innings by aggressively targeting the Indian bowlers, then switched to a more traditional style of play after the Lunch break.

“At the start, he dominated and put the pressure that was on them back on the bowlers. Then, as soon as the atmosphere cooled slightly and they gained control, he kept playing in his own style, and his partnership with Joe Root left England on the threshold,” he said.
