Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Saurashtra batter Sheldon Jackson announced his retirement from professional cricket on Tuesday, February 11. His decision followed Saurashtra’s defeat to Gujarat in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy quarterfinal.
After winning the toss, Gujarat opted to bowl first, restricting Saurashtra to 216 in their first innings. Chirag Jani top-scored with 69 runs, while Jackson managed only 14 off 46 balls. Chintan Gaja stood out for Gujarat, claiming four wickets.
In response, Gujarat dominated with the bat, amassing 511 runs in their first innings. Jaymeet Patel (103) and Urvil Patel (140) led the charge with centuries, while Dharmendrasinh Jadeja picked up five wickets for Saurashtra.
In their second innings, Saurashtra faced another batting collapse, getting dismissed for just 197 runs and suffering a defeat by an innings and 98 runs. In his final innings, Jackson scored 27 runs off 32 balls.
The 38-year-old batter featured in 106 first-class matches, accumulating 7,283 runs at an impressive average of 45.80, with 21 centuries and 39 half-centuries to his name.

On January 3, 2025, Sheldon Jackson announced his retirement from limited-overs cricket during the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The right-handed batter featured in five matches for Saurashtra in the tournament, scoring 138 runs, including a half-century.
However, Saurashtra failed to reach the knockout stage, finishing fifth in their group with just three wins from seven games. Jackson had an impressive List-A career, playing 86 matches and amassing 2,792 runs at an average of 36.25.
His record included 14 half-centuries and nine centuries, with a highest score of an unbeaten 150. In T20 cricket, he appeared in 84 matches, accumulating 1,812 runs, including 11 fifties and one century. In the Indian Premier League, Jackson represented Kolkata Knight Riders in nine matches—four in 2017 and five in 2022—scoring 61 runs across eight innings.
