Former Pakistan Captain Sarfaraz Ahmed Shifts To London Amidst Uncertainties Surrounding His Career: Reports

Reportedly, Sarfaraz Ahmed, the ex-captain of Pakistan, has relocated to London with his family, raising questions about his Test future. Ahmed’s relocation coincides with his batting challenges during the first Test against Australia last year. Managing only three and four runs in the Perth Test led to his substitution by Mohammad Rizwan for the subsequent two Tests in Australia.

As per Cricket Pakistan, Sarfaraz, feeling disheartened and pessimistic about the future, chose to depart from Pakistan and relocate to London. Besides the struggles in the Australian Test series, Sarfaraz faced challenges in the two Tests in Sri Lanka last year, recording scores of 17, one run, and an unbeaten 14 in his three innings.

However, the 36-year-old showcased batting excellence in the home Test series against New Zealand a year ago, accumulating 335 runs in four innings with an average of 83.75. This included one century and three half-centuries during his comeback series. Following this, Sarfaraz is expected to emulate Cheteshwar Pujara by participating in the County Championship. He had previously represented Yorkshire in county cricket.

Sarfaraz Ahmed is set to take part in the Pakistan Super League

Sarfaraz Ahmed is scheduled to play for Quetta Gladiators in the upcoming Pakistan Super League edition. With 1503 runs in 68 innings at a strike rate of 123.80, he brings considerable T20 experience, featuring seven half-centuries. Quetta will kick off their 2024 PSL journey against Peshawar Zalmi at Gadaffi Stadium on February 18.

In total, Sarfraz has featured in 54 Test matches, 117 ODIs, and 61 T20Is for Pakistan, accumulating 6,164 runs with six centuries and 35 half-centuries. He captained the team to victory in the 2006 U19 World Cup and the 2017 Champions Trophy, defeating India in both instances.

In the Pakistan Super League, he successfully led Quetta Gladiators to the title, securing victory over Peshawar Zalmi in the final.
