A momentous occasion in cricket history is on the horizon as the Indian men’s cricket team prepares to participate in the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. This development follows the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealing a 15-member squad along with five backup players.

The tournament is slated to take place from September 28 to October 8, and it will adopt the T20 format, with all matches set to unfold at the Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng Cricket Field.

Team India is set to commence their journey on October 3rd

Ruturaj Gaikwad, a 26-year-old cricketing talent, has been appointed as the captain of the Indian squad.

The team has made some significant additions, including left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, who was the highest wicket-taker for Punjab Kings in IPL 2023, and Yashasvi Jaiswal of Rajasthan Royals, who impressed with a century on his Test debut against the West Indies.

Furthermore, Rinku Singh, known for his explosive performances with the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2023, has secured a place in the squad.

This marks a historic moment as cricket makes its return to the Asian Games, having previously appeared in Guangzhou in 2010 and Incheon in 2014.

Bangladesh emerged victorious in the inaugural edition, while Sri Lanka currently holds the defending champion title, with Afghanistan being the runner-up on both occasions.

Prior to this, the Indian men’s cricket team’s participation in multi-sport events was limited to the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, where they played in a 50-over format.

The Asian Games in Hangzhou promises to be an exciting showcase of cricketing talent on the continental stage. Currently, Team India is undergoing training at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore in preparation for their Asian Games opener on October 3rd.
