“Look they have always thought about the future” -Sunil Gavaskar’s views on Hardik Pandya taking over as the captain of Mumbai Indians instead of Rohit Sharma

Hardik Pandya has experienced success in the last two IPL seasons, leading Gujarat Titans to consecutive finals and winning the trophy in their debut season. The accomplished all-rounder is now set to lead Mumbai Indians in pursuit of their record sixth IPL title, taking over from the five-time winning captain, Rohit Sharma.

In response to this change, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar supports the decision of the Mumbai-based franchise. The 74-year-old highlighted that Rohit is already handling the leadership responsibilities for India across formats. Speaking to Star Sports, the cricketer-turned-commentator recently stated:

“Look they have always thought about the future of the franchise. Rohit Sharma is already 36 years old and also faces immense pressure being the captain of India for all three formats.”

He added:

“They have tried to reduce some of that burden and give that responsibility on the young shoulders of Hardik Pandya.”

The eagerly anticipated IPL 2024 is expected to commence in the final week of March.
