Gambhir backs Rohit Sharma for his success in whites

Gautam Gambhir has backed the inclusion of Rohit Sharma in the Indian test side. He said that he could turn out to be a vital cog of the Indian middle-order in tests if opportunities are given to him.

Rohit debuted in tests back in 2013 during the farewell series of Sachin Tendulkar. Scoring a couple of centuries he proved his competence in the widely recognized format of the game. However, he wasn”t able to have a golden touch during the overseas tests. Thas turned out to be a primary reason behind the lack of opportunities.

Speaking on the same, Gambhir said,” He needs to carry this batting form into Test cricket. I’d go on to say that if someone like a Rahul Dravid or Sachin Tendulkar mentors him for a few months, we may get a completely polished, Test-ready batsman. Sometimes Rohit just seems bored in Test cricket.”

“A few words of advice by these legends may transform that. If things start rolling for Rohit, just imagine India’s Test line up with Pujara at number three, Virat at 4 and Rohit at number 5″, said Gambhir.

Rohit and the Carribean tests

Rohit Sharma has now played 27 tests amassing over 1585 runs at an average of 39.62. He last played a test during the boxing day test at Melbourne. However, he wasn”t a part of the English tour where India succumbed to a 4-1 defeat.

On the other hand,  Rohit has now earned another call-up for the test matches in Jamaica and Antigua. It will be interesting if he could create an impact in the ICC test championship.

India has been dominant in whites for some time now and can Rohit add his flavour to make it more special?
