Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has been appointed the head coach of the senior India Men’s team. BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced on Tuesday (July 9). His first assignment will be the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, which features 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is and kicks off on July 27 as well. He has taken the reins from Rahul Dravid.

Rahul Dravid’s tenure as the head coach of the Indian cricket team concluded after their stunning victory in the T20 World Cup. As a coach, Dravid encountered several setbacks. Under his leadership, India got here agonizingly close to prevailing multiple titles, consisting of the semi-final loss to England in the 2022 T20 World Cup and the final defeats in the World Test Championship and the 2023 ODI World Cup, both to Australia. But they won the T20 World Cup 2024.

Shah additionally acknowledged Dravid’s hit tenure, particularly his final mission, where India won the T20 World Cup 2024 without losing a single match. The Rohit Sharma-led team played notable cricket and clinched the title by defeating South Africa in the final, marking India’s first unbeaten T20 World Cup campaign.
