Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir has given an alarm to Rishabh Pant to improvise his presence on the Indian side. He backed Sanju Samson’s fine form and how his current form can turn out to be a threat to Pant in the near future.
Rishabh Pant was officially given the role of a wicket-keeper batsman during the West Indies tour in the absence of MS Dhoni. However, he wasn’t at his brutal best as he used to be on the tour. This has certainly arisen some doubts overfilling Dhoni’s shoes in fixtures going forward.
On the other hand, Sanju Samson was highly appreciated for his 48- ball 91 against the South Africa A. His presence of mind and style of play received applause from Harbhajan Singh and Gambhir. Now, Gambhir has given a clear cut warning to Pant to enhance the quality of his presence on the Indian side.
In a column to the Times of India, Gambhir wrote: “Rishabh Pant is always exciting but he has to watch his back as my favorite Sanju Samson is throwing some serious challenges at him.“
Chief Selector MSK Prasad had already revealed that Ishan Kishan and Samson are already a part of the plan towards building a young and dynamic team in shorter formats. All eyes on them and into which tour they will be tested as a part of the International set-up.
Rishabh Pant and the home season
Pant has also earned call-ups for the upcoming series against the Proteas in both the formats of the game. Being a home season, it will be interesting to see how he would utilize the advantages to the fullest.
