Gautam Gambhir will currently be seen in a new role coaching for the upcoming season of Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).
However, according to Gambhir, the final decision is yet to be taken. Gautam Gambhir will be mentoring for the first time in TNPL 2017. The left-handed batsman also made it clear that he won’t be playing in the tournament.
Gambhir quoted saying, “This tournament is for upcoming Indian youngsters. It is a platform for the local talent. I don”t want to block a young talent by playing in the Tamil Nadu Premier League.”
Gautam Gambhir isn’t the first superstar to join the tournament. Brett Lee joined the TNPL Franchise last year as a mentor and brand ambassador for Ruby Kanchi Warriors. Robin Singh and Lance Klusener are working with KaraiKudi Kaalai and Kovai Kings respectively.
However, Gautam Gambhir made sure that his coaching won’t affect his cricketing career. According to few sources, “Mentoring in TNPL doesn’t mean that he is compromising on his playing career. But it will be a new experience for Gambhir and he is taking it as there are hardly any cricket engagements for him around that time. He will continue to play domestic cricket for Delhi, IPL and hopefully make a comeback into the Indian team.”
Gautam Gambhir has done a tremendous work at his job as a captain for his IPL franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders. Gautam Gambhir has won the IPL title 2 times for his team. Today, Kolkata Knight Riders is considered as one of the most competitive and robust team in IPL.
Gautam Gambhir has been in an excellent form throughout his IPL journey. He was the second highest runner getter in IPL 2017 scoring 498 runs. Along with this Gambhir has been a part of the World Cup winning team 2 times with his collective efforts.
Gautam Gambhir has evolved himself as a player and it will be interesting to see the stalwart of Indian Cricket taking up his job as a coach.
