Gautam Gambhir Opens Up On His Altercations With Shane Watson In 2008

Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir is known for his aggressive brand of cricket. During his days, he has never shied away from any altercations with the opponents. Time and again, he has had fights with cricketers inside the field. Recently, Gautam Gambhir opened up on his on-field fight with Shane Watson in 2008.

Meanwhile, the incident took place in during the third Test the Arun Jaitley Stadium (previously known as Feroz Shah Kotla). Gautam Gambhir hit Shane Watson with his elbow while running between the wickets. Both the cricketers received sanction for their behaviour.

Recalling the incident, Gambhir said that the collision was not at all intentional. The former India opener said that they pleaded guilty in front of the match referee after talking with coach Gary Kirsten.

“Shane Watson! And the reason is I didn’t do that intentionally. Actually, I got banned after that game. A lot of people say that I elbowed him, but I didn’t do that purposely,” Gambhir was quoted as saying in Star Sports show Cricket Connected.

“When I was going for the hearing to the match, Gary Kirsten told me to accept it as it is Chris Broad. He will give you the extra sympathy and he is not going to ban you. I went inside with Gary Kirsten and he asked if you accept your mistake. I said ‘Yes’ and he said you are banned,” he added.

Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir had a great game scoring a double century in the first innings in front of his home crowd. He played a fine knock of 206 runs before Shane Watson got him out. The southpaw also chipped in with a valuable knock of 36 runs to salvage the game in a draw.
