Following India’s unexpected loss to New Zealand in the Test series, head coach Gautam Gambhir has decided to impose strict measures on the team. Previously, optional training sessions were a norm, but India’s consecutive defeats have led to a change in approach. Mandatory Training Ahead of the Mumbai Test
The Indian team, guided by Gautam Gambhir, will no longer have the flexibility of optional training sessions. The head coach has made it mandatory for all 16 squad members to participate in two full practice sessions ahead of the third and final Test against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium.
According to a report in The Indian Express, players must attend these sessions on October 30 and 31. A source confirmed that no player would be permitted to skip, marking a shift in the team’s preparation style after the defeat in Pune.
New Zealand’s Impressive Series Performance
New Zealand has already secured the series by winning the first two Tests, taking a 2-0 lead with one match remaining. In the first Test at Bengaluru, India struggled on a pitch favouring pace, managing only 46 runs in their first innings. Despite a better performance in the second innings, it wasn’t enough to prevent a loss.
In the second Test at Pune, New Zealand’s spinners adapted brilliantly to the conditions. Mitchell Santner’s standout performance played a key role in India’s 113-run defeat. With the series already lost, India faces an uphill battle in the final Test.
India’s Batting and Bowling Concerns
India’s batting lineup has been a major concern throughout the series. Apart from Yashasvi Jaiswal, the top order, including experienced players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, has struggled for consistency and runs.
The spin attack, consisting of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, has also underperformed. Known as one of the most effective spin pairs, they have been unable to trouble New Zealand’s batsmen significantly.
