Gautam Gambhir Welcomes Jasprit Bumrah To Lord’s Hall Of Fame

Jasprit Bumrah finally etched his name on the prestigious Lord’s Honours Board with a sensational five-wicket haul on Day 2 of the third Test against England. The Honours Board, reserved for those who either score a century or take five wickets in an innings at the iconic venue, has eluded even greats like Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar.

Bumrah ensured he wasn’t left out, as he delivered a top-class performance. His spell included two unplayable deliveries that knocked over Joe Root and Ben Stokes. After dismantling England’s batting lineup and finishing with five wickets, Bumrah held the ball high and led the Indian team off the field with pride as England were bowled out for 387.

Warm Applause from the Dressing Room

As Bumrah returned to the pavilion, he was welcomed with a warm gesture from Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir and bowling coach Morne Morkel. Gambhir waited patiently near the Lord’s Honours Board and greeted Bumrah with a hug. The rest of the support staff and team members also joined in the celebration. Bumrah then completed the formal tradition of signing the board. With a cheerful thumbs up, he posed for photos, marking a memorable moment in his career.

A Fifer That Made History

Jasprit Bumrah’s five wickets included the dismissals of Harry Brook, Ben Stokes, Joe Root, Chris Woakes, and Jofra Archer. Four of these were clean bowled, showing his dominance with the ball. His performance not only put India in a strong position but also saw him surpass Kapil Dev’s record for most five-wicket hauls by an Indian in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) countries. Thanks to his effort, India kept England under 400 runs. At the end of the day, India reached 145/3, trailing by 242 runs, with Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul unbeaten.

When asked about his reaction after completing the five-wicket haul, Bumrah said, “The reality is that I was tired. There was no happiness factor. I bowled for a long time on the field, and sometimes I get tired. I’m not 21-22 anymore that I’ll jump around. I’m usually not like that. I was happy that I contributed. Other than that, I just wanted to go back to my mark and bowl the next ball.”
