Sourav Ganguly BCCI halting IPL 2021 midway

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has come under the scanner for his recent comments which were contradicted by India’s Test captain Virat Kohli during the pre-tour press conference. In the light of it, an old video of Sourav Ganguly has resurfaced on the internet where he stressed that girls don’t need to play cricket.

In an interview aired on Bengali news channel ABP Ananda, Sourav Ganguly, and the host were talking about Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun following his father’s footsteps and playing cricket. This is when the reporter asked if Sana likes to play cricket and Ganguly refused saying that there is no need for girls to play cricket.

“Ami Sana ke baaron korbo. Meyedar cricket khelaar dorkaar nei (I’ll ask Sana not to because girls don’t need to play cricket),” Ganguly had said.

The comment from BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has resurfaced at a time when women’s cricket is facing new dawn in India. The likes of Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Mithali Raj, and Jhulan Goswami have led the women’s side from the front and are reckoned as one of the strongest sides in world cricket.

“Let’s not take this further” – Sourav Ganguly on Virat Kohli saga

Sourav Ganguly on Friday refused to speak on white-ball captaincy row following remarks of Virat Kohli on his earlier comments.

“Let’s not take this further, I have nothing to say,” Sourav Ganguly told reporters.

Asked if there would be any action taken against Virat Kohli after the South Africa tour, Ganguly said, “I have nothing to say. It is the matter of the BCCI and they will only deal with it.”

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli-led India have already landed in India and are expected to hit the training ground soon. They will play three Tests followed by the same number of ODIs.
