Glenn Maxwell hit on helmet during practice

Hard hitting Australian middle order batsmen Glenn Maxwell and wicket-keeper Mathew wade suffered blows to their neck and helmet respectively in the nets during a practice session ahead of their first warm-up match against Sri Lanka.

The Incident took place during a net session at Lords’ training facility when a local net bowler struck him in the neck by a quick bouncer. Immediately after getting hit, Maxwell slowly lowered himself into a crouch position to compose himself as several teammates, the bowler and team doctor Peter Brukner moved into the net to check on his welfare.

The right handed explosive Victorian then left the field with the doctor for a thorough assessment of the injury, as both of them later left the field and went straight to the dressing rooms.

Brukner”s assessment focused on Maxwell”s jaw and the top of his neck, indicating that”s where the right-hander was struck.

However, news of a non-serious injury confirmed by skipper Steven Smith brought big relief to Australian fans and dressing room ahead of the mega event.

Australian captain confirmed that the injury which Maxwell suffered was not something to worry about and that Maxwell was icing the blow in the room.

“He took a knock to the neck and he is getting some ice. I’m sure he will be okay,”cricket.com.au quoted Smith as saying.

Australia looked focused and the players were sweating it all out in an intense and lengthy training session at lords where the left-handed wicketkeeper Mathew wade also coped a knock on the helmet by speedster Pat Cummins, but wade didn’t look in any discomfort as he continued his session in the middle.

Australia will look to start their champions trophy campaign with a win today, as they face the Sri Lanka in their first of two warmup games at the Oval.
