Captain Pat Cummins of Australia has criticized journalists for fueling rumors of a split within the dressing room of the team. Cummins, during a pre-match media rendezvous in Adelaide, faced lots of queries relating to the rift regarding him. The rumor started to surface when Josh Hazlewood made his comments on Day 3 in the Perth Test match.
Hazlewood kicked off with a criticism of the Australian batting lineup on how badly they performed in Perth with India setting a massive target of 534 runs. Hazlewood has said that perhaps those batters should be asked to bring about a turnaround in performance for the team. Their comments were picked up by the likes of Adam Gilchrist and Sunil Gavaskar and brought the speculation of rift within the team.
Cummins has shot down the speculation, saying Hazlewood’s comments have been taken out of context. He insisted upon the unity of the crew toward the impending Test against India. Cummins uttered those words to wash out the rumors and shift the focus back on cricket.
‘We try not to notice those things’- Pat Cummins
During the press conference, Captain Pat Cummins criticized certain pundits for attempting to make headlines using Josh Hazlewood’s name and claimed that they grasped the situation incorrectly.
“The team’s great. Some of the commentators got it a hundred per cent wrong. We prepared like we always do. It’s a great feeling around the team. When things don’t go right, there are enough commentators who will support you but some that will try and create headlines. We try not to notice those things. We try to concentrate our focus on how we prepare, give ourselves the best chance to win the games,” Pat Cummins said.
