Greg Chappell is not impressed with the on-field behaviour of Tim Paine. The Australian captain was heavily scrutinised for his immature chatter on the last day of the SCG Test. Paine was feeling the heat when Australia wasn’t able to pick wickets and started saying irrelevant stuff. Paine soon understood his mistake and apologized to everyone after the conclusion of the Test match.
Now former Australia cricket, Greg Chappell has advised Paine to set a better example for little kids watching the game. He stated that as a host nation the Australian side should always respect the visiting team and play within the spirit of the game.
Greg Chappell appealed to Tim Paine to set a good example
The interaction between Ravichandran Ashwin and Tim Paine in the third Test match wasn’t received by several experts and fans on social media. Paine seemed arrogant as he was constantly getting under the skin of Ashwin who was batting brilliantly. Chappell has urged Paine to let his bat do the talking and set the right example with his performance on the field. He also added that a player also sets the standard for the home crowd which the spectators also follow.

“It is incumbent on the hosts to ensure that visiting teams are shown respect. If it is permissible for players to disrespectfully engage with their opponents, then the public will feel that it is acceptable for them to join in. If the players show their best side, it is more likely that the spectators will follow suit”, wrote Chappell in a column for Sydney Morning Herald.
“I urge you to impress on the team to let the bat and ball do the talking and set better examples to millions of impressionable little boys and girls, lest they start imitating the worst instincts and actions of their sporting heroes. This will be the greatest legacy that you can leave”, Chappell wrote.
Meanwhile, after the conclusion of the SCG Test, the Australia coach Justin Langer also came in support for skipper Tim Paine. He said that Paine had a frustrating day but he has great leadership skills and his full support. Paine made a fine comeback as he stroked an important half-century on day 2 of the Brisbane Test.
