Gulbadin Naib responds for the first time on Afghanistan”s Poor Show in CWC19

Afghanistan”s poor performance continues to haunt them as they returned home without even registering a single victory. Though games were close against India and Pakistan, they weren”t able to maintain the required grip till the last overs of the game. Few replacements in the squad in the due course of the tournament further created a lot of confusions in the team and it ultimately led to their below-par results.

While many said that internal politics in the team have led to their downfall all of a sudden, there weren”t enough supporting statements for the same. Gulbadin Naib, the newly appointed skipper for the World Cup 2019 reacted for the first time on this issue.

Speaking on the same he mentioned that he didn”t get enough support from the senior-most players in the team and it played a huge part on their display in the field.

Gulbadin Naib said that whenever he asked them to bowl overs they weren”t co-operating him to the fullest. He also claimed that seniors were laughing when the team lost in most of the games and it really did upset him.

“We depend mostly on seniors but they were deliberately not performing, not giving attention to me, they were laughing instead of being sad after defeats & even not looking at me when asked to bowl,” said Gulbadin Naib as quoted by an Afghan Sports journalist.

Gulbadin Naib has now been sacked from the captaincy role and young Rashid Khan is all set to lead the side from the next assignment. In a recent interview, Rashid expressed his desire to play any bilateral series with higher-ranked teams thus making themselves competent in the cricketing arena.
