“Happens In The Heat Of The Moment” – Smriti Mandhana On Harmanpreet Kaur’s Reaction After Dismissal

Harmanpreet Kaur

Team India cricketer Smriti Mandhana expressed Harmanpreet Kaur’s fury against umpires after her dismissal happened in the heat of the moment during the final ODI against Bangladesh on Saturday, July 22 at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. She added that the Indian skipper was disappointed with the umpire’s reaction.

The incident took place thirty-fourth over of the second innings. Nahida Akhter bowled a full delivery around the middle and left stumps. Harmanpreet Kaur tried to sweep the delivery but missed it. The ball lobbed off her pads and was caught by the slips fielder. The umpire ruled it lbw. She expressed her frustration by hitting the stumps with her bat. She also argued with the umpire, punching her bat, before walking out of the ground. Smriti Mandhana defended Harmanpreet Kaur, and said,

“I think it’s just when you play for India, you want to win the match and it happens in the heat of the moment. But I think she wasn’t really happy with the decision given. And she felt that she wasn’t out. So that came about. But yeah, I just feel that it’s just the heat of the moment and nothing much.”

“Just knowing Harman as a person and knowing her how much she wants to win for India, I’m sure from the spirit of the game, I wouldn’t say that it is (acceptable), but when you really want that W on the board for India, these things happen,” he added.

The players were disappointed as there was no super over. Smriti Mandhana expressed that they would have loved to play the Super Over. She said,

“We would love to play a Super Over and I don’t think there was a question that was asked about Super Over to us. It was all decided. But we would’ve loved to play a Super Over. But yeah, I think, the kind of game that happened, I’m sure that it’s good for women’s cricket going forward.”
