Harry Brook Breaks Virender Sehwag’s Record In Tests

In a remarkable display of batting, England’s Harry Brook shattered Virender Sehwag‘s 20-year-old record for the highest individual score in Multan. Brook scored a sensational 317 runs off just 310 balls on Day 4 of the 1st Test against Pakistan.

His aggressive knock included 29 fours and three sixes, surpassing Sehwag’s 309, made in 2004 against the same opponents. Brook became only the sixth Englishman to score a triple century in Test cricket, joining legends such as Andy Sandham, Len Hutton, and Graham Gooch.

Partnership with Joe Root Dominates Pakistan

Brook and Joe Root partnered for a record-breaking 454-run stand for the fourth wicket, lifting England to a massive total of 823/7d. This partnership, achieved on a flat Multan pitch, was the highest for England in Tests and the fourth-highest overall in Test cricket history.

Root, who fell just short of his triple century with 17 fours, was dismissed for 281 after spending 10 hours at the crease. Their partnership eclipsed the previous record set by Peter May and Colin Cowdrey, who put up 411 runs for England in 1957.

England Takes Commanding Lead

Thanks to Brook’s outstanding innings, England built a formidable 267-run first-innings lead over Pakistan’s total of 556. Brook was dismissed while attempting to accelerate the scoring, caught off a sweep shot, but his effort had already put England in a commanding position.

The innings solidified Brook’s place among England’s top Test batsmen, and his performance in Multan will be remembered as one of the greatest in recent Test cricket.

Harry Brook’s maiden triple century not only broke records but also cemented his place in cricket history. His fearless approach, combined with Joe Root’s experience, propelled England to one of their highest-ever Test innings.

By surpassing Sehwag’s iconic record, Brook has shown the world that he is ready to take on the mantle of England’s future batting stalwart. This innings, marked by a remarkable partnership and individual brilliance, will be a defining moment in his career and in Test cricket.
