“He Can Triple It By The Time His Innings Is Over” – Sunil Gavaskar Shares An Advice For Rohit Sharma

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has not been his true self with the bat on the field for a while now. Ever since he took the captaincy reigns from Virat Kohli, his old form took a hit. Inconsistency has crippled all over. The world saw yet another failed innings from him yesterday against Australia in Mohali.

Rohit was dismissed in just 11 runs, trying to take on the Aussie bowlers. He played his shots too early and got the timing wrong. Nathan Ellis’s top-notch effort in the field marked the end of Rohit’s innings.

Former Indian cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar raised questions about the opener’s approach and states that whatever Rohit Sharma is trying to do needs to stop. He has sent out a piece of advice for him, saying he needs to move on to the old approach that brought him so much success.

“With Rohit Sharma, the range of shot that he has, he doesn’t really have to do what he is looking to do over here, that is a step down the pitch even before the bowler has released the ball,” said Gavaskar to India Today.

He further added:

“The way he has been playing T20 cricket before that, his scoring and strike rate has been phenomenal. It’s been terrific. He hasn’t tried to do anything more. Over here, in the last few matches, it just seems to me that he is looking to do a little bit more and, in the process, getting out”

Sunil Gavaskar also praised Rohit Sharma and said that once he settles on the crease, he can triple his score within no time.

“I do believe that Rohit needs to give himself that little more time, he has got all the shots in the book. Even if he gets off to a slow start, he can triple it by the time his innings is over,” he added.

Australia defeat India in a record-breaking run chase

Chasing the humongous score of 209, the Aussies had a blazing start. They secured 60 runs in the powerplay itself. Indian spinners troubled them to an extent, but not enough. They never looked under pressure and kept on building partnerships even after losing wickets.

India still had a fighting chance in the end, but their death bowling was exploited by Australian wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade. The Men in Blue are now 0-1 down in the three-match T20 bilateral series.
