Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has been mighty impressed with uncapped Punjab Kings (PBKS) wicket-keeper Jitesh Sharma. A couple of young players have come to the forefront and have hogged the limelight and Jitesh stands top on the list.

Punjab Kings have found a hidden gem in Jitesh who is contributing massively to the team through his batting and fielding. He has been providing great contributions down the order and has been exceptional behind the wickets.

Virender Sehwag believes Jitesh Sharma could be the backup wicket-keeper for Team India in the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year given his current form. Speaking on Cricbuzz, the cricket expert said:

“He has impressed quite a bit… So should we also include him in the Australia-bound T20 World Cup squad? I am just asking because whoever scores runs, we keep them in the category of potential players for the World Cup.”

“But no doubt, he has impressed me a lot. If I had to select the team, I would take him to Australia as a second wicketkeeper-batter for the T20 World Cup (in September-October),” Sehwag added further.

Jitesh Sharma had come out to bat ahead of Liam Livingstone against Rajasthan Royals on Saturday. The right-handed batter played a knock of 38 off just 18 balls with the help of 4 fours and 2 sixes, helping Punjab Kings post a mammoth total of 189 runs.

“He has no fear” – Virender Sehwag lauds Jitesh Sharma

The 2011 World Cup winner further added that the young wicket-keeper bat has a clear head which puts him ahead in the race along with his contemporaries. Besides, Virender Sehwag feels he has no fear while batting, which helps him to decimate the best bowlers in the world.

“He has no fear, he comes into bat and expresses himself. He knows on what ball to play a shot over the covers, what ball I need to play over mid-off and mid-on. He hit Yuzvendra Chahal and he reminded me of VVS Laxman on how he used to hit against Shane Warne. He has impressed me quite a bit. I would take him to Australia as second wicketkeeper-batter for the T20 World Cup,” Sehwag concluded.

Jitesh Sharma has accumulated 162 runs in nine matches at a strike rate in excess of 165 and an average of 32.40.
