Head coach Gautam Gambhir delivered high praise for Team India star Suryakumar Yadav during the T20 World Cup 2026, where the batter is leading the Men in Blue. Gambhir applauded Suryakumar’s leadership qualities and his ability to manage the team effectively.

He emphasized that beyond his on-field skills, it is Suryakumar’s captaincy and strong rapport with the players that have significantly eased the head coach’s role.

“He has made my life a lot easier in this format. I think he is a phenomenal leader of men. Not by what he does on the field, not by the type of batter he is or the shots he has, all that you can keep it aside. But the way he relates to players, talks to players, spends time with players, how much he is relaxed on the field.”

“Sometimes as a coach, you know that you can think of other things because he is going to keep the atmosphere calm, what any coach can dream of,” he said on JioStar.

He further stated that Suryakumar has fulfilled every requirement of a leader. Gautam Gambhir also praised his calm and effective decision-making in pressure situations, adding that it is reassuring to have someone of his calibre at the helm of the team.

“For me, I think Surya the player I can keep him aside, but Surya the leader has ticked every box, which has made my life a lot easier. It is a great thing when you have someone like him leading, because his heart is in the right place and he takes the right decisions, especially when things are under pressure.”

Suryakumar Yadav Leads India To Win Over the USA

Suryakumar Yadav set the example with a captain’s knock against the USA. After India opted to bat first and slipped into deep trouble at 77/6, the pressure was immense, but Suryakumar took charge of the situation.

The skipper produced a brilliant unbeaten half-century to rescue the innings, scoring 84* off 49 deliveries, which included 10 fours and four sixes at an impressive strike rate of 171.43. His strong form early in the tournament is a major boost for India, who will now look to maintain their winning momentum through the group stage.
