Former India captain and head coach Rahul Dravid has expressed confidence in Virat Kohli‘s ability to deliver big runs in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia. Dravid highlighted that Kohli’s impressive start, with runs in the first match, signals promising performances ahead.
Kohli ended a 491-day wait for a Test century with his unbeaten 100* in the second innings of the Perth Test. Dravid noted that the star batter had already shown signs of form during India’s tour of South Africa, where he was the team’s top scorer with 172 runs in four innings.
Speaking to Star Sports about Kohli’s ton in Perth, Dravid remarked:
“He’s been batting really well, even in South Africa six months ago when we are there, I thought he was batting really well on a couple of difficult wickets. It’s just nice for him to be able to get that hundred at the start of the series. I think he could have a big series.”

Yashasvi Jaiswal was the other Indian batter to notch a century in the Perth Test. The left-hander showcased his dominance over the Australian bowlers, smashing 161 runs in the second innings. Praising Jaiswal’s exceptional performance, Dravid remarked:
“Jaiswal has been progressing rapidly. Just a year and a half ago, he debuted in the West Indies, and now, to score a hundred in his first Test in Perth is remarkable. Not many have done that. With his hunger and drive, he’ll only continue to improve.”
India secured a dominant 295-run win against Australia in the Perth Test, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
“The consistency with which he delivers for us is truly remarkable”-Rahul Dravid praises Jasprit Bumrah’s brilliance in the Perth Test
Rahul Dravid praised stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah for his consistent performances under pressure. Bumrah was named Player of the Match for his five-wicket haul in the first innings and three crucial wickets in the second. Dravid commended his leadership, saying:
“Bumrah took control of the game with his impactful spell on the first evening and followed it up with key wickets in the second innings. As captain, he led from the front, taking charge and turning the game around. His consistency across all formats is incredible, and we have immense respect for him,” Dravid said.
Captain Rohit Sharma has rejoined the Indian squad for the upcoming pink-ball Test against Australia, set to begin on December 6 in Adelaide.
