The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly is confident that Virat Kohli will return to form in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022. Incidentally, Kohli will return to action in the multi-nation tournament after being rested for the West Indies and Zimbabwe series.

Kohli, who last played for India on the England tour, hasn’t been in the best of form with the bat. He last scored an international century in 2019 against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. He will be under immense pressure given that he has no big scores under his belt.

Sourav Ganguly urged the fans to let Virat Kohli practice and play his natural game. The former cricketer reckoned that Kohli is a big match players and carries a good reputation and is hopeful that he will return to form in the Asia Cup. Speaking to India Today, Ganguly said:

“Let him practice, let him play matches. He is a big player and has scored plenty of runs. I am hopeful that he will make a comeback. He is just not being able to score a century and I believe he will find his form in the Asia Cup.”

Virat Kohli had a tumultuous tour in his last series against England. The right-handed batter averaged a paltry 33 across all three formats. Kohli’s decision to skip West Indies and Zimbabwe tour amid poor form also came under fire.

Along with Virat Kohli, KL Rahul will also return to the T20I format. He was ruled out of the South Africa due to a groin injury and since then has been out of action. The talismanic batter was recently cleared to participate in the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe.

However, pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel will miss the much-awaited competition due to injuries. It will be a good opportunity for young Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh to make a reputation for themselves ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.

India’s squad for Asia Cup: Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan.
