With the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) being wrapped up last month, a bunch of youngsters left their marks with impressive performances. Gujarat Titans (GT) won their maiden IPL title in the debut season, with absolute teamwork.
For Titans, Yash Dayal, the left-arm pacer, made a vast impact. For his success in the tournament, a lot of recognition goes to the head coach and former India left-arm pacer, Ashish Nehra. In a talk with India News, Dayal lauded Nehra for the influence he had on him. Dayal also stated that several people told him that the Titans’ head coach sees himself in the youthful pacer.
Dayal stated: “I would only like to say that Ashish Sir is like a blessing for me, he is like a fatherly figure. Ashish Sir’s talks had so much effect on me, when other people used to see me and him talk, they used to say that Ashish Sir sees himself in me when he was young.”
Besides, Nehra received a lot of appreciation for his coaching style and for not putting too much pressure on his players. “He didn’t use to put much pressure mentally. He used to say that whatever I have done earlier in the Syed Mushtaq Ali, I have to do the same thing here, just that the exposure is a little more here.”, Dayal said.
I have not heard in any franchise a coach giving so much time to a player- Yash Dayal
Dayal moreover said that Nehra would come and assist him in the nets, offering his exclusive time. “He said that you have done everything for such things only, so just go and express yourself, that you will not get a better platform than this and it is very important to enjoy this thing.”, Dayal stated.
Meanwhile, Dayal picked up 11 wickets in 9 innings in this IPL season.
“The only thing he says is that once you have picked up the ball, you shouldn’t look back. Apart from the team practice, he used to come specially to get me to bowl in the nets separately. I have not heard in any franchise a coach giving so much time to a player especially.”, he added.
