CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad said that RCB captain Faf du Plessis should remember his previous association with his old side when the two teams face off in a critical quarterfinal match in the Indian Premier League on May 18.
With Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) battling for the final playoff position, Saturday’s IPL match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium is a virtual elimination.
In certain areas of Bengaluru, there is a thunderstorm predicted for Saturday night. Fans of the RCB will be perspiring over it. With 14 points, CSK is in control of their destiny. In the event of a victory, they end up with 16 points and, at worst, fourth place. As long as their net run rate stays higher than RCB’s, they can win even with a close loss.
RCB is in a must-win situation with 12 points. The teams will receive one point apiece in the event of a washout or no result, which will be sufficient for CSK to advance.
“There could be the chance to come back again”- Ruturaj Gaikwad
Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain of CSK, recently had an amusing opinion in an interview with Star Sports regarding the fact that du Plessis should have a “soft corner” for his former team when they play on Saturday at the M Chinnaswamy stadium.
Ruturaj discussed his friendship with du Plessis in the interview, as well as how he spoke with his old opening partner the last time their teams played in the current IPL season.
“Even that day (reverse fixture), before the toss he was saying, “You know, my elbow, It’s not really well, and I am still struggling,”, and I went to him and said, “Promise me you won’t play that scoop-shot. I will have that fielder inside and have some other field for you,” Ruturaj Gaikwad said.
“I was happy with him scoring all around, but just not that scoop. Especially against us. You have to have that soft corner against CSK. But I was still encouraged not to score those runs in that match. Especially with fresh auctions coming next year, there could be a chance to come back again,” Ruturaj added.
RCB is on a five-match winning streak, which will undoubtedly give Faf du Plessis’ team some much-needed confidence as they prepare for the massive CSK test.
