Former cricketer Ricky Ponting made a witty remark about the West Indies pacer Kemar Roach ahead of the first Tes between Australia and West Indies that got underway on Wednesday, November 30.
The Australian captain is regarded as one of the greatest batters in the traditional forms of the game that is one-day internationals and Test Matches. He has amassed 13378 runs in 168 Tests which include 62 half-centuries and 41 centuries in his elusive career as well as led the Aussies to two consecutive world cup titles.
Both of them have engaged in several battles during Pointing’s playing days. They have encountered each other in six Test matches between 2009 and 2012. Pointing has 100 runs in 158 deliveries bowled by Roach who got the better of him on five occasions.
He has played 24 Test matches against the mighty Windies in a span of 16 years between 1996 and 2012 scoring 1977 runs at an average of 53.43. Ricky Pointing made a hilarious comment by saying:
“He owes me $5million, he hit me on the elbow here in a Test match and then got a couple of really big IPL contracts on the back of it,” Ponting was quoted as saying by 7Cricket.
Kemar Roach represented the Deccan Chargers in the 2010 edition of the IPL. In the two matches that he represented the franchise, he went wicketless in both his outings. He has taken 252 wickets in his test career which includes 10 five-wicket hauls and one ten-wicket haul and is the senior most bowler in the West Indies Test bowling lineup.
West Indies to play two Tests against Australia
West Indies will play a two-test match series versus Australia. The first test has begun today at Perth where Marnus Labuschagne has brought up his 8th Test match century. Warner was sent back early to the crease.
Usman Khawaja and Marnus had a partnership of 142 runs until the former was dismissed by Kyle Mayers on 65. Australia are at 293/2 at the end of the first day.
