Some of the residents of Sportsline Society, where Rohit Sharma built his early cricketing career, were at Wankhede on Thursday, along with PV Shetty’s family, who used to be the president of MCA. This time Rohit’s mother, Poornima, who watched the match in the president’s box, could not resist the emotions and hugged her son and kissed him before getting to the hundreds of fans chanting Rohit’s name instead of the doctor’s appointment she had.

Rohit Sharma and his team this was a dream come true and the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 was won along with the winning of the country. India and South Africa played in the Barbados final and India claimed the second T20 World Cup title. The reception that Indian fans gave their WC heroes was seen by all the people on this planet and it is going to be etched in the annals of Indian Cricket History forever.

Millions of fans lined up on Marine Drive in Mumbai to celebrate the victory and there was a full house at the Wankhede Stadium when the squad was presented. Other emotional shots include one involving Rohit Sharma hugging his mother; the lady had missed a doctor’s appointment to attend the Wankhede Stadium shindig.

Rohit Sharma’s mother discusses his T20I retirement plans:

Even if their Twenty20 World Cup campaign doesn’t go well, Purnima, Rohit Sharma’s mother, has revealed her son is retiring from playing Twenty20 international cricket. Rohit led the Men in Blue to their second T20 World Cup title after defeating the Proteas by seven runs in the Barbados final. She said as follows to The Indian Express:

“I have never thought I would see this day. Before going to the World Cup, he had come to meet us and said that he wanted to quit T20Is after this. I just said try to win. I was not feeling well and had a doctor’s appointment, but I still came as I wanted to see this day” Rohit Sharma’s mother said.

Rohit declared that he was retiring from T20 international cricket after leading the side to their second World Cup title in the shortest format, calling it the ideal time to say goodbye.
