The Asia Cup 2025 final between India and Pakistan in Dubai turned out to be a nail-biting thriller that went right till the end. India, under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, chased down the target of 147 runs with only two balls remaining. The victory was largely shaped by Tilak Varma’s composed knock in a tense situation.
Speaking in a candid interview, captain Suryakumar openly admitted that the intense match left him feeling the pressure too. He shared that his heart was racing, especially during the middle phase of the chase. “Had there been a heart-rate monitor, it would have shown my heartbeat over 150 for sure. I was walking inside the dressing room in the 11th or 12th over. After that I never stopped inside. Whatever moments came in the game, my heartbeat was really fast,” Suryakumar told .
Captain’s Words of Motivation During Bowling
During the Pakistan innings, Suryakumar was regularly seen bringing the team together in huddles, giving them pep-talks. Pakistan’s opening pair, Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman, got their team off to a strong start, leaving India under pressure at 113 for 1.
When asked about his words to the players at that stage, Suryakumar Yadav recalled motivating them with confidence and belief. “Batters do make runs and win matches, but I feel bowlers win you tournaments. It was the same situation here (113 for 1) and in the next seven overs they were all out for 146.”
He further explained what he told the players, “I told them that ‘You all have been in this situation before even while playing for Team India, your respective states and franchises (in the Indian Premier League)’. I told this to all of them who have been playing cricket for the past ten years. ‘You guys know how to pull things back. The calmer you are, the easier it is for you to deliver’. Those overs bowled after that changed the match completely.”
Tilak Varma’s Heroics and Skipper’s Vision
India’s chase did not begin smoothly, as the team collapsed to 20 for 3 inside the first four overs. However, Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 69 brought India back into the game and ensured a historic win against Pakistan. Reflecting on the tense moments, Suryakumar said, “There were some hiccups in the chase later, but it is the final, big occasion, you expect these things to happen.”
“But there are players who absorb the pressure, like Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh. These all things add up.” Looking ahead, he also spoke about his long-term vision as captain. “I am at a position from where I should make players who could play for the next 10 years for Indian.”
