Here Are 5 Lesser-Known Facts About MS Dhoni That You Might Not Be Aware Of

On July 7, cricket legend MS Dhoni celebrates his 42nd birthday. While fans eagerly await the IPL to see him in action since he retired from international cricket.

There are still some intriguing aspects about Dhoni that remain relatively unknown. Let’s delve into five such fascinating revelations about the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain.

1. MS Dhoni’s Secret Brother

Not widely known among fans, Dhoni actually has an older brother named Narendra Singh Dhoni, who happens to be a politician.

Despite his absence from Dhoni’s biopic, Narendra explained that he played a minor role in Mahi’s life and the film focused primarily on him, rather than their family.

2. Dhoni’s Stint under Ajinkya Rahane’s Captaincy

While Dhoni is renowned for his captaincy skills, it’s interesting to note that he once played under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane in the IPL.

In 2017, during Rahane’s leadership of the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant, Dhoni took up the wicketkeeper position in a match against the Delhi Daredevils, which ended in defeat for their team.

3. Dhoni’s Charity Match for British Soldiers

In a gesture of support for British soldiers, Dhoni captained the Help for Heroes XI in a charity match against the Rest of the World at The Oval on September 17, 2015.

His impressive performance of 38 runs off 22 balls greatly contributed to the Help for Heroes XI’s victory.

The match aimed to raise funds for the welfare and well-being of wounded British soldiers and the armed forces community.

4. Dhoni’s Rare Bowling Appearance

Throughout his tenure with the CSK, Dhoni primarily served as the team’s wicketkeeper.

However, in a match against Yorkshire in 2012, Dhoni relinquished his captaincy to Suresh Raina and took the opportunity to showcase his bowling skills.

He bowled two overs, conceding 25 runs, marking the sole occasion when he bowled for the Chennai Super Kings.

5. Dhoni’s Peculiar Player of the Match Award

In a bizarre turn of events during an IPL match in 2008 between CSK and Delhi, Dhoni was awarded the Player of the Match title.

Despite being dismissed in the 19th over after scoring 33 runs off 33 balls, while batting at number three, his contribution played a role in CSK’s victory.

As they chased down Delhi’s score of 187/5 on the final ball of the match. This decision remains one of the most peculiar in IPL history.
