Here Are 5 Reasons Why IPL Is Better Than PSL

Since the advent of T20 cricket, many domestic leagues have been launched including Indian Premier League (IPL), Pakistan Super League ( PSL), Big Bash League (BBL), Carribean Premier League (CPL).

These have given chance to the youngsters of the host country to showcase their talent and play shoulder to shoulder with known national and international players. The Indian Premier League which began in 2008 has gained popularity since the last 10 years whereas PSL is just 3 seasons old.

Here we look at the 5 reasons why IPL is better than PSL

  1. Number of teams involved

The Indian Premier League is one of the best sporting leagues in the world at the present moment. Totally there were 8-10 teams every year since its inception. Teams were named on the cities of Franchisees, namely Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals, Kochi Tuskers, Deccan Chargers, Pune Warriors India, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Lions, Rising Pune Supergiant, Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Kings XI Punjab.

In PSL 6 teams are there namely, Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans, Karachi Kings and Islamabad United.

IPL has been a better and more popular league than PSL.

Since the inception of IPL in 2008, top players from various countries like England, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangla Desh, Afghanistan and West Indies have come to feature in this popular league. While in the PSL league, attracts lesser known or the retired players from New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and England to play. IPL has seen top players like Chris Gayle, Dwyane Bravo, David Warner, Steve Smith, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, our own Kohli, Brendon McCullum represent different franchises.

Since the beginning IPL viewership has increased year by year across the world. The main reason is its world-wide telecast in countries like Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Canada, West Indies, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, United Kingdom, United States of America and Afghanistan since 2017. The telecast is shown live on hot star web-channel and times group.

While PSL is shown live in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Kenya, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, United Kingdom, USA, and Zimbabwe.

  1. Young players rub shoulder with top foreign players

Since the invention of IPL in 2008, young Indian players get an opportunity to play with top Indian players as well as well foreign players. It is a competitive league giving opportunities to players likes of Iyer, Sanju Samson, Pant, Deepak Hooda, and Mohammad Siraj, Rashid Khan who get huge money and feature with the top players like Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Kane Williamson, and Kohli. Some of the young players like Sanju Samson, Bumrah, Bhuvaneshwar, Hardik Pandya, Md. Siraz, have graduated from Indian cricket team.

The Pakistan Super League started just 2 years ago and is set to become a platform for the local youngsters giving an opportunity to play with top players like Kumar Sangakkara, Tamim Iqbal, David Willey, Darren Sammy.

The Indian Premier League draws a large number of people to watch their favorite stars live. Majority of the matches are watched by anywhere between 10,000-25,000 spectators. In terms of the revenue earned and payments to the player’s IPL is outstanding. In 2017, IPL was the most searched league in the world on the internet. The sponsorship of IPL increased every year. From 2008-2012, DLF earned RS 40 Crores, 2013-15, Pepsi earned 79.2 Crores, Vivo from 2016-17 it earned Rs 100 Crores and from 2018-2022 it will earn 439.8 Crores.

The PSL has less support than IPL. In the first week of PSL 3, there were empty stadiums and could not capture many audiences. Comparatively the players get paid much less in PSL.
