The importance of fitness in the cricketing arena reached its peak when BCCI announced that all the players should clear yo-yo test to make their opportunities count in the Indian cricket team. The players go to NCA, Bangalore to cement their places by passing the test.

Here is Team India captain Virat Kohli’s Diet Plan

Let”s now look at few players who have been making an impact in the lives of fitness freaks

1. Ravindra Jadeja

Making into the limited overs format after his exemplary outing at ICC U19 WC, Sir is really an inspiration for many people out there. His lightning fielding skills, hard-hitting down the order are a treat to watch out.  Not just with his “sword”  celebration, but his workout videos from Instagram gives us major fitness goals.

The Rajput boy made into the longest format of the game in 2013 after three Ranji triple centuries. But, he has established himself as a No.1 ICC test bowler and a very useful batsman down the order. No wonder fitness has changed his life and he continues to amaze us with his performances.  Let”s see if he can make it to the team in the third test at Johannesburg.

How many of you are aware of the fact that Umesh always wanted to get into the police department and the training he had undergone to chase that dream?.  Tables turned and he got into Vidarbha cricket team and fortunately for the Indian cricket team.  Though he struggled in his initial phases of international career due to inconsistencies in line and length, The Border Gavaskar trophy in 2017 provided a platform to showcase his impact in spin-friendly pitches also.  No wonder, he is an asset to the team and something incredible is on his way.

3. Hardik Pandya

If there is someone, who is killing the youth with his style and fitness its none other than Hardik Pandya,  while some of the fitness freaks take a rest day /cheat day on Sundays, one of his posts in Instagram says that he trains hard even on holidays. How lucky are we to witness someone who can trash the bowlers in any format of the game and be handy with the ball as well.  Indian Premier League has given us this lucky charm and his passion towards the game is motivating him to be one of the finest all-rounders after Kapil Dev.

His breathtaking catches prove the flexibility of his body that has been undergoing training for a long time. Now it”s up to him to cement his spot in the longest format of the game at no:6 acting as a bridge between batsmen and bowlers. Pandya now has a larger fan following in Instagram accounting to 3 million.

4. Viral Kohli

For Kohli, no time is free time. (Source: Twitter)

Probably the quote “Fitness is not a hobby.  It”s a way of life” is made for Virat. A chubby youngster who led India to victory in 2008 ICC U19 WC made his International debut in the same year and has been redefining the game of cricket by breaking several records in all the formats of the game. But what motivated him to achieve these feats?  Sweating out in the gym, Diet plans and what not!!!! His coach even mentioned that Virat had given up mutton and other fat-rich foods that hindered his sprinting between the wickets.

During his initial days of training Kohli mentioned it “horrible” but he said without that dedication, his mental approach towards the game wouldn”t have improved. Physically fit, mentally strong and aggressive towards the game.  These terms” aren”t really enough to describe his actions on the field. He keeps motivating the youth through the social media to take fitness seriously as it brings out the best of an individual.  Kudos Virat!!!!!

5. MS Dhoni

Wine gets better with age and MSD is proving it right.  How many of you have watched the video where Axar, Virat, and MSD compete in a race and Dhoni triumphing in it and he is the eldest among them.  Those were the times when Dhoni was known for his long hair and hard-hitting shots across every corner of the ground.

Fitness -“The Mahi Way”

Over a decade he carried the responsibility of taking Indian team on his shoulders by grooming youngsters and providing his contribution down the order. Whenever the top order fails, he makes us reach a respectable total by running between the wickets and the fitness levels he has improved over these years play a major role here.

The way Dhoni trains his calf muscles is something every marathon runner should inspire from. That epic runout from him in dismissing Mustafizur Rahman in ICC WT20 at Bangalore is enough to prove his fitness level and prevented the team from embarrassing defeat. In short, Warrior has seven words.  So does” MS DHONI ” with fitness being the weapon for the warrior.
