India will Kickstart the much-awaited world test championship against Windies in July 2019. ICC in its new release revealed the Future Tour Programs of all the teams for the years 2018-2023. A test championship and an ODI league are the special highlights.
The test championship will be played over a period of three years( July 15, 2019, to April 30, 2021), where the nine test sides will play six series (three home and away fixtures each) and the top two teams will earn a qualification to the final in 2021. Though there were several rumours regarding its schedule, this news from ICC is really a present to the fans of the longest format of the game.
As a part of the qualification for the 2023 World Cup in India, a 13-team ODI championship league has been scheduled (1 May 2020 to 31 March 2022) where the top eight teams will earn a direct entry.
However, the remaining teams will play the Qualifiers yet again. Here the sides will play eight bilateral series at the home and away fixtures. It is to be noted that these league based qualification scenarios are already implemented in women”s cricket team.
India who is ranked number one in tests lost only one series (South Africa) over the past two years. They ripped the opponents New Zealand, England, Bangladesh and Australia last year. It will be really interesting how India can create an impact in the test championship.
