ICC announced the schedule for the Women”s T20 World cup qualifiers which will be played at the Netherlands from July 3-14.
While the top eight teams have already earned a direct qualification for the World T20I Cup to be played at West Indies, the fates of the remaining two teams will be decided on the results of the qualifiers.
Hosts Netherlands will be one among the eight teams to play the qualifiers. Others include Bangladesh, Ireland, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Scotland, Uganda, Thailand and United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The teams have been divided into two groups and the top two teams will be locking horns in the semifinals of the tournament. All the matches here will be treated as T20I as ICC earlier granted International status to all the teams playing the T20 format of the game.
The groups :
Group A: Netherlands, Bangladesh, UAE, PNG
Group B: Thailand, UAE, Scotland, Uganda
Teams that earned direct qualification: Australia, New Zealand, England, South Africa, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Windies.
The World Cup will be played at Westindies in the month of November where the hosts will be defending the championship. It will be really interesting to see how the hosts approach the game in the home conditions.
ICC also announced a Women”s Global Development squad that will play five games against the English super league teams. This squad has been built by picking the players who are representing the qualifiers.
These matches will be played post qualifiers (July 15-21)and will certainly boost the confidence among the associate nations who are trying to make an impact in the International arena.
