Kane Williamson and Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is considered as the benchmark for batsmen all around the world today. The batting genius keeps outdoing himself in almost every match. His fellow contemporary Kane Williamson too is in awe of the Indian captain. Williamson and Kohli have played a lot of cricket against each other right from their U-19 days. The two even back then were captains of their respective team in the 2008 U-19 world cup.

The New Zealand skipper Williamson believes that Kohli is setting standards and raising the bar for batsmen all around the world. With time he has matured immensely and that is why he is now able to make good decisions. Williamson also pointed out a key point about Kohli’s drive and hunger to be the best in the world.

Virat Kohli is setting new standards: Kane Williamson

“At the moment, leading the way in cricket and setting the standard as a batter and breaking all these records. A lot of that probably has to come down to his maturity, his ability to make very good decisions.”

“Not only is he gifted with his ability and his natural ability, but you’re marrying that up with this constant drive and hunger to improve and just be better day in and day out. Yeah, we are fortunate to play against each other, it’s been great to meet at a young age and follow his progress and journey”, Williamson said on StarSports show Cricket Connected.

Time and time again Virat Kohli too has acknowledged the way Kane Williamson has led the New Zealand side. Before the tour of New Zealand earlier this year, Kohli praised the black caps for the manner in which they play their cricket. The Indian captain said they are competitive on the field but always play within the spirit of the game.

When a journalist asked him about revenge as New Zealand defeated India in the world cup semis. Kohli chuckled and stated, “These guys are so nice that you never think about revenge against them”.
