Scott Styris, a former New Zealand and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder, has revealed a commendable gesture from the IPL franchise for one of its former players. The 47-year-old recalled flying Albie Morkel’s father in business class because he had never been to India before.

Morkel, a former South African all-rounder, was a key member of the Chennai franchise during the IPL’s early years. He played for CSK from 2008 to 2013, making significant contributions with both the bat and the ball.

Scott Styris opened up about the generosity of Chennai’s owners on Jiocinema’s ‘Legends Lounge,’ which also featured Chris Gayle, Suresh Raina, Parthiv Patel, Robin Uthappa, and Anil Kumble. Concerning the Morkel incident in particular, he stated:

“His father had never been to India, so CSK flew him business, not in the contract; they didn’t have to do it.”

Styris played for the Chennai franchise in the 2011 IPL season. He didn’t have much of an impact because he only played in a few games.

Raina was a fixture in the Chennai franchise for many years. His long association with the team came to an end after the 2021 season. Raina revealed his experience as a member of CSK:

“They give a lot of bonuses, too. You always feel like doing something special for them; you felt like a pampered kid.”

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) are the two most successful IPL franchises in the league’s history. While MI has won the title five times, CSK has won it four times. However, in the 2022 edition, both teams struggled, finishing at the bottom of the points table.

Both teams finished with eight points, winning four and losing ten games. On the basis of a higher net run rate, Chennai finished ahead of Mumbai in the points table.
