Team India opener Shubman Gill has shared fond memories of playing in New Zealand. He shares a special connection with the country as he made his ODI debut there in 2019. Shubman Gill is part of Team India for the T20Is and the ODIs against the Kiwis. The first T20I of the series was washed out due to rain on Wednesday, November 18 in Wellington.
Shubman Gill was part of India’s U19 team for the World Cup team in 2018, which was played in New Zealand. He showcased his batting brilliance in the tournament. A year later, the opener made his debut for India in ODI in Hamilton. Sharing his memories of playing in New Zealand, Shubman Gill said to the broadcasters Prime Video,
“I came here for the U19 World Cup. I made my ODI debut here in 2019. Good to come back (to New Zealand), feels good. Definitely, I have fond memories of coming back to NZ. Whenever I know I’ll be going to NZ it brings a smile. I have been able to execute a few things I have been practicing (about his success in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy).”
Wait and swing in the line of the ball: Shubman Gill shares his batting mantra
Team India cricketer Shubman Gill further revealed his batting mantra in a recent interview with Prime Video. He expressed that hitting sixes is about timing and now power. The 23-year-old added that he tries to play fewer for deliveries, by accumulating ones and twos at the crease. Gill said,
“I have always felt hitting sixes is not about power, it’s about timing. If I am getting that right, I know I can hit sixes. It’s always about me looking to score than looking for four or six. I want to play fewer dot balls, I want to keep ticking, ones, twos, etc. It’s more about you being able to wait and swing in the line of the ball rather than swinging hard at the ball.”
