Former Indian captain Virat Kohli and current Indian Captain Rohit Sharma are undergoing tough times in the ongoing season of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Both of them have performed far below expectations which has raised several questions about their place in the Indian cricket team

However, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly backed both the Indian stalwarts to come back in form and start scoring runs consistently once again. In an interview with News18, Ganguly said that both of them are great players and they would get back in form.

“They are great players and I am sure they will get back in form. I hope they start scoring runs soon. I don’t know what is going on in Virat Kohli’s head but I am sure he will regain his form and get some good runs. He is a great player.” said Ganguly in an interview with News18.

In IPL 2022, Virat Kohli has scored 128 runs in nine innings at a poor average of 16 and strike rate below 125. While Rohit Sharma has scored 153 runs in eight innings at an average of 19. Both of them have failed to hit even a single half-century in this IPL season. Many cricket fans were concerned with the form of Virat and Rohit because the T20 World Cup is going to be played later this year in Australia.

Ganguly was in awe of the express pace of Umran Malik. Sourav Ganguly has even called the fast bowler from Jammu and Kashmir the face of the league in IPL 2022.

“Umran Malik’s bowling has been eye-catching. Umesh Yadav too has bowled well and so has Khaleel Ahmed. I would say Umran Malik has been the outstanding face of the league so far.” said Ganguly to News18.

Ganguly also said that he is keeping a close eye on this IPL. He is very impressed with the performance of both new teams – Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans.

“Oh, it’s very interesting, I am watching (the IPL). Any team can win and everyone is playing well. The two new teams – Gujarat Titans and Lucknow SuperGiants  – are doing well,” Ganguly added in his interview.
