The CEO of the Super Kings, Kasi Viswanathan, stated that the five-time champions would wait for MS Dhoni to choose his future, adding that the team had never influenced their previous captain’s decisions. Viswanathan added that the team, like the supporters, expects Dhoni to rejoin the Indian Premier League for a 2025 season.

Dhoni had a specific role to perform for CSK this season due to his knee condition; he only came out to play towards the conclusion of the innings. The 42-year-old handed up captaincy responsibilities to Ruturaj Gaikwad just before the season started. Gaikwad’s ability to lead from behind the wickets was greatly shaped by Dhoni, who frequently offered the young player advice.

After leading CSK to fifth place in the standings, Gaikwad’s team lost their most recent league game to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, preventing them from qualifying for the playoffs. RCB’s higher Net Run Rate allowed them to qualify for the playoffs even though four teams, including CSK and RCB, finished with 14 points.

“He has always taken his decisions”- CSK CEO On MS Dhoni

When it comes to MS Dhoni‘s plans, not only the fans but even the management of the Chennai Super Kings are in the dark, but Kasi Viswanathan, the CEO of the team, expressed his “extreme optimism” that the former captain will participate in the IPL. Ruturaj Gaikwad took over as captain of CSK when Dhoni relinquished it in 2024 after the team achieved a record-tying fifth IPL trophy in 2023.

“(What is his future). I do not know. It’s a question that only MS can answer. See, the question for us is, we’ve always respected the decisions taken by MS. We have left it to him. And as all of you know, he has always taken his decisions and announced them at the appropriate time,” Kasi Viswanathan told CSK in an interview.

“We do expect that we will get a decision as and when he decides. But we are very, very hopeful that he will be available for CSK next year. That is the view and the expectations of fans and me. That’s the case,” he added.

As CSK’s title defence ended in Bengaluru, Dhoni was spotted leaving the field without exchanging a handshake with the opposition players. One day following the match, the former captain of India made his way back to Ranchi and was spotted cycling across the city.
