How Has Virat Kohli Performed In ODIs Against New Zealand?

Indian cricketer Virat Kohli is currently in excellent form at the ongoing 2023 World Cup. Having played four matches, he has accumulated an impressive total of 259 runs, maintaining an average of 129.50 with a strike rate of 90.24.

As India prepares to take on New Zealand in Dharamsala on Sunday, Kohli is eager to maintain his impressive performance. Kohli’s World Cup journey commenced with a resilient 85 against Australia, rescuing India from a precarious situation.

He contributed an unbeaten 55 against Afghanistan but was dismissed for 16 against Pakistan. In India’s victorious seven-wicket encounter with Bangladesh, the 34-year-old was named the Player of the Match after scoring a magnificent 103* from 97 deliveries.

Reviewing his performance in ODIs against New Zealand, Kohli has participated in 29 matches, amassing 1433 runs at an impressive average of 55.11, which includes five centuries.

Among these centuries, four were achieved on Indian soil, where he maintains an outstanding average of 70 in 16 matches against the Kiwis.

Kohli’s top score against New Zealand in ODIs stands at an unbeaten 154*, achieved in October 2016 in Mohali. This impressive inning saw him strike 16 fours and a six, guiding the Men in Blue to a successful chase of 286 runs in 48.2 overs with seven wickets remaining.

His first ODI century against the Kiwis was recorded in Guwahati back in November 2010, where he notched 105 runs off 104 balls, contributing to a 40-run victory.

Additionally, he displayed his brilliance with a memorable 123 off 111 balls in Napier, albeit in a losing effort as India fell short in pursuit of 293. In October 2017, Kohli made 121 runs off 125 balls when India lost to New Zealand.

New Zealand successfully chased a target of 284 with six wickets left. In another match the same month, he scored 113 runs off 106 balls, helping India win by just six runs.

Kohli’s performance against New Zealand in ODI World Cups

Kohli’s history in ODI World Cups against New Zealand consists of just one encounter, which was the 2019 World Cup semi-final in Manchester.

As the captain of the Indian team, he faced only six deliveries and was dismissed for a single run, falling victim to a lbw decision by left-arm pacer Trent Boult.

Although Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni scored half-centuries, the Indian team ended up losing the crucial match by 18 runs. They were chasing a target of 240 but got dismissed for 221 runs in 49.3 overs.
