How Much Money Will Pakistan Take Home As Hosts After Champions Trophy Elimination?

Pakistan’s 2025 ICC Champions Trophy journey came to an abrupt and disappointing end after their final group-stage match against Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium was abandoned due to rain on February 27. Having suffered crushing defeats against New Zealand and India in Karachi and Dubai, respectively, the no-result match against Bangladesh ensured Pakistan finished at the bottom of Group A. They secured just one point from three games, ending the tournament with a poor net run rate (NRR) of -1.087.

Despite being the official host of the competition, Pakistan finished as the worst-performing team, raising questions about their preparation and execution. Now, attention turns to the financial outcome of their campaign in the tournament.

Pakistan’s Earnings from the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) fought for nearly two years to secure the hosting rights for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. However, their home campaign lasted less than five days, as heavy defeats against New Zealand and India were followed by a washed-out match against Bangladesh.

According to the ICC’s prize pool for the tournament, Pakistan will receive $140,000 (approximately Rs. 1.21 crore) for finishing in the seventh/eighth position. Additionally, the team will earn $125,000 (around Rs. 1.08 crore) as a participation fee. In total, the Mohammad Rizwan-led side will take home Rs. 2.30 crore from the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, despite their lackluster performance.

Pakistan’s Hosting Expenses for the Tournament

Hosting an ICC event for the first time in nearly 29 years, the PCB made significant financial investments to upgrade stadiums and improve cricketing infrastructure in preparation for the tournament. In August 2024, the ICC allocated a budget of $70 million to facilitate the event in Pakistan, along with an additional $4.5 million for contingency expenses. While Pakistan’s hosting efforts were substantial, their team’s disappointing performance overshadowed the tournament’s successful execution.

Despite the financial boost from hosting the Champions Trophy, Pakistan’s early exit raises concerns about their future in international cricket and the effectiveness of their investment in infrastructure and player development.
